This year, we’ve had the pleasure of introducing you to a core aspect of our organization and the force behind our passion, work, and culture: Our people. As 2024 comes to an end, we wanted to revisit the compelling, unique stories of Atwell employees and the various ways they have contributed to our organization and communities around the world.
January
We kicked off the year by highlighting our Land Solutions team’s PM Apprentice Program, one of the many ways we build up our employees and invest in their professional development. Led by Deb Wilson, our VP of Land and Right of Way Solutions, this program identifies and trains new APMs and PMs by offering structured mentorship, hands-on guidance, and consistent feedback and recognition. Project Managers Andrew Mullineaux, Sara Olwin, and Jason McDarby, the first graduates of the program, shared how the program set them up for success.
February
Anne Polakowski, a Director on Atwell’s Environmental team, shared how powerful intentional networking can be for career success. She discussed how authenticity, a strong work ethic, and a focus on forming friendships have ignited new ideas and new opportunities for her, especially as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
We celebrated Engineers Week by having a Q&A with some talented Atwell engineers: Alexis Griffiths, Dustin Wilkinson, Jim Bieda, Morgan Walubita, and Scott Perrie. We learned more about their backgrounds, favorite projects, and their opinions on the future of engineering.
Additionally, we recognized three of Atwell’s Black engineers—Morgan Walubita, Cierra Scott, and Barry Caison—in honor of Black History Month, learning about the significance of Black engineers in the industry and how to encourage and support their professional growth and visibility.
Our Project Manager Nick Walters showed us why having a passion outside of engineering will make you a better leader, drawing parallels between his role as a PM and his title as the National Championship of Sports (NCS) Slow-pitch World Champion and MVP.
March
The first connection that Katy Reminga, Associate Project Manager, had with Atwell began as a senior in high school when she attended the Summer Science Institute in Michigan. Ten years later, after finishing her master’s degree and working as a geologist, she was asked to chaperone the SSI course alongside Andrew DeWitt, Director at Atwell and fellow SSI alum. The full-circle moment illustrated how pursuing new experiences that you are passionate about can open the doors to exciting career opportunities.
For National Surveyors Week, we connected with Senior Director and surveyor Justin Cecil to learn more about his experiences in surveying. He also shared tips on collaboration, how technology like GIS influences surveying, and how he plans to adapt to future changes in the field.
Senior Director Courtney Schmidt shared her career journey for Women’s History Month, giving us insight into the evolution of Atwell’s Program and Development services, how to excel in a male-dominated industry, and fostering inclusion as a leader.
April
We highlighted Senior Development Manager Jason Minock and his career journey from land planning to renewable energy and environmental work.
May
We observed Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Heritage Month by learning about the cultures of three Atwell employees: Ahna Quichocho, Kylyn Sasaki, and Sumanth Pobala. The trio shared how their cultural backgrounds influenced their career choices and the importance of AAPI visibility in the AEC industry.
With May also being Mental Health Awareness Month, we highlighted the importance of mental health wellness through the eyes of our Survey Technician Eric Gonzales, who shared how support from his family and Atwell team helped him get through difficult times.
June
Gil Henry, Vice President of Oil & Gas, discussed his career experiences and how his electrical engineering background set him on the path of leadership in Oil & Gas.
July
We celebrated National Intern Day with stories from intern Ashlea Bills, who shared her internship experiences with Atwell and RVi throughout her college career, and Associate Project Manager Michael Rossi, whose two-year internship experience led to a full-time career at Atwell.
We also learned more about Martee Grainger, Associate Director of Talent Management, and how her curiosity and passion for philanthropy led her to a career in talent management.
August
We introduced you to Senior Director Mike Lancioni, a 35-year veteran of the Environmental industry, who shared his thoughts on leadership, community involvement, and industry trends.
September
Our Senior Director Jackie Larocque was selected for the Gulfshore Business 40 under 40 Award. The highly sought-after award recognizes distinguished professionals in the southwest Florida community.
Project Engineer Deanna Corio highlighted how Atwell’s ERGs, diverse projects, and mentorship resources have enhanced her career.
We also learned more about Rodney Williams, Director of Talent Management, who shared how he supports employees each day and why company culture is so important.
October
Our Associate Director Wesley Bernal and Design Lead Manager Tyler Van Veghel supported recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. Through Florida Power and Light’s organizational efforts, Wesley and Tyler led teams of linemen from various organizations to bring power back to neighborhoods throughout the Daytona and Flagler regions.
November
We observed Veterans Day by recognizing three Veterans currently with Atwell: Allen Vose III, Anthony Queisser, and Jeremy Deramus. They shared their unique military experiences and how their time serving has affected their work and who they are today.
December
We appreciate the members of our team who shared their story with the world, and we are also incredibly grateful for all of our employees and the continuous dedication to doing amazing work in our communities and establishing meaningful connections with clients, the public, and each other. We look forward to all of the ways our people will grow and excel professionally and personally in 2025!
