Atwell hires Kyle Wood as a Director

 

We are pleased to share that we’ve hired Kyle Wood as a Director. Located in our Birmingham, Alabama office, Kyle’s responsibilities will be centered on business development for all Atwell services in the Southeast, with a focus on the greater Birmingham area. In addition to Land Development, his responsibilities also include management and development support for the Power & Renewable Energy portfolio. With more than 20 years in the civil engineering industry, Kyle brings ample expertise on the geographic area, as well as the overall industry.

Throughout his career, Kyle has focused on technical design, project, and client management in various industries, such as energy, site development, transportation, and water resources. Kyle has also been an officer with the Alabama Section of ASCE, as well as a committee member for the 2015 and 2022 ASCE Report Card for Alabama’s Infrastructure publications.

Atwell further expands in Florida by opening Jacksonville office

Atwell – a leading consulting, engineering, planning, landscape architecture, survey, and construction services firm – has opened a new office in Jacksonville, Florida. With eight offices located throughout the state of Florida, the Jacksonville office will bring Atwell closer to clients in the region.

Atwell expects to initially add up to 20 team members to the new location. Employees in the Jacksonville office will focus on land development, especially in the retail, commercial, and residential markets. Services will include consulting, engineering, planning, landscape architecture, survey, and construction management.

“The new Jacksonville location will allow us to expand our local presence while continuing to provide regional and national expertise as a company,” said Brian Cassidy, senior project manager in Atwell’s Jacksonville office. “This office is a great opportunity to reinforce our strong commitment to Florida and supporting our clients in the Jacksonville community.”

Located within the Hampton Professional Park on the south side of Jacksonville, the Atwell office address is 7807 Baymeadows Road E, Suite 200. This new location adds to Atwell’s already strong presence in Florida.

Atwell enters into a definitive agreement to acquire Dempsey Surveying Company, expanding presence in Midwest

 

Atwell has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Dempsey Surveying Company, a land surveying firm based in Cleveland, Ohio. This acquisition, the third transaction announced by Atwell this quarter, will expand the company’s presence in Ohio and surveying capabilities in the Midwest. The deal is expected to close by Dec. 31, 2022.

Dempsey Surveying Company’s services include topographic surveys, construction staking, boundary services, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood elevation certificates, surface model TINs, Global Positioning System (GPS) services, aerial mapping, and drone services.

Dempsey Surveying Company has a wide range of clients across several markets including industrial, commercial, public utilities, and more. The company maintains more than 50 years of survey records.

Since 1985, Christopher Dempsey has been providing surveying services throughout Ohio as a second-generation surveyor. He started Dempsey Surveying Company in 2002 with the sole focus on surveying and providing exceptional service.

This is Atwell’s third acquisition this quarter. Last month, Atwell financed the acquisition of Cross Surveying, a 28-person land surveying firm based in Florida, and acquired Ben Dyer Associates, a 55-person engineering firm based in Maryland.

Atwell expands into Mid-Atlantic with acquisition of Ben Dyer Associates, Inc.

De. 1, 2022 – In its second transaction this quarter, Atwell has acquired Ben Dyer Associates, Inc., a 60-person engineering firm based in Maryland. Ben Dyer Associates specializes in civil engineering, land planning, and surveying services for land development and redevelopment projects throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

This acquisition expands Atwell’s reach into the US Mid-Atlantic region and will strengthen Atwell’s ability to support a variety of land development projects, including single and multi-family residential, commercial, and industrial. Ben Dyer is also experienced in the power and energy market, enhancing Atwell’s ability to support solar projects on the east coast.

The company founder, Ben Dyer, entered private practice as a registered professional engineer and land surveyor in 1935. In 1952, the company was incorporated as Ben Dyer Associates, Inc. Mauersberg began his career with Ben Dyer Associates in 1986. Every president’s career has spanned more than three decades with the company.

Atwell finances acquisition of Cross Surveying, deepening surveying relationships in the Southeast region, Florida, and Georgia

 

Nov. 17, 2022 – Atwell has provided the financing to a private investment group that has acquired Cross Surveying, LLC, a 28-person land surveying firm based in Florida.  As part of the transaction, Atwell will work with Cross Surveying on expansion opportunities and all Florida surveying operations.  Cross Surveying specializes in providing a comprehensive approach to surveying and mapping projects. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

This acquisition will immediately enhance the depth and breadth of Atwell’s surveying capabilities within the Real Estate and Land Development and Power and Energy teams in the Southeast region, especially in Florida and Georgia.

“Atwell and Cross Surveying share the same client-focused model for service excellence,” said Ron Waldrop, Vice President of Real Estate and Land Development for the US Southeast at Atwell. “We’ve worked with Cross Surveying for several years and are collaborating on several projects currently. Cross Surveying complements our current suite of services and helps fill important geographic gaps.”

Cross Surveying originated in 1989 when owner and founder Robert Cross formed Bob Cross Professional Land Surveying. In 1995, Cross purchased Global Surveying and expanded into seven locations across Florida.

“Teaming with Atwell allows us to unlock added value for our clients by tapping into a broader range of services backed by regional and national expertise,” said Cross. “We look forward to supporting Atwell’s growth in Florida and the Southeast Region.”

Cross Surveying is comprised of professional surveyors and mappers, CAD technicians, and office personnel. The firm’s services include boundary surveys, construction stakeout, control surveys, design surveys, residential surveys, topographic surveys, and more.

Gil Henry joins Atwell as Vice President Oil and Gas

 

Gil Henry has joined Atwell as Vice President Oil and Gas. In this leadership role, Henry will continue to drive client and team growth in the oil and gas market. He will be based in Atwell’s Houston, Texas office.

Henry has worked in the oil and gas industry for his entire career of more than 20 years. Prior to joining Atwell, Henry worked in various roles – including Vice President of Pipeline Projects – at UniversalPegasus International, an international pipeline engineering and design company. In his previous role, he led a team of more than 50 employees nationwide and directly contributed to increasing the company client portfolio and significant project awards. Over his career, he has overseen and managed numerous projects ranging from multiyear, large scale programs to large diameter interstate pipelines.

“Gil is a well-respected leader with deep experience in the oil and gas industry,” said Matt Rosser, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Atwell. “Gil’s knowledge of our market, his relationships, and passion for providing proactive solutions will help us continue to focus on achieving our clients’ goals on an increasingly broader scale.”

Henry earned his B.S. in electrical engineering from University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Henry is actively involved in Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) and the Pipeliner’s Association of Houston.

Atwell hires Lauren Federsel as Team Leader

 

Atwell, LLC is pleased to welcome Lauren Federsel to its team as team leader in our GIS group. Based in Tampa, Florida, Federsel will be responsible for leading a team of GIS professionals to deliver geospatial solutions by expertly combining data acquisition, data management, analysis, and display of information. She will oversee developing project objectives, driving innovation, and guiding team deliverables that empower our clients to make strategic and operational decisions for land development, power and energy, oil and gas, land solutions, and natural resources.

Federsel is a geographic information systems (GIS) professional with over 24 years of geospatial experience. Federsel is an accomplished leader with extensive experience in contributing new and innovative ideas in using geospatial techniques to assist in solving spatial problems for many types of projects, including GIS support for the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) program, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulated projects that involve environmental report preparation, Section 7 protected species consultation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 permitting, state and local permitting projects ranging in size from a few to thousands of acres and from one county to multi-state, water management/quality plans, site selection/feasibility studies, transportation planning, waste management, land planning, risk assessment, transmission line route site selection, and land development.

Federsel’s GIS project experience includes creating/implementing and managing the Field Data Collection/Tablet Program, linear projects permitting, spatial analysis, MCDA analysis, database design and implementation, thematic mapping, global positioning system (GPS) to GIS conversion, GIS quality assurance, quality control, and many years of project and team management. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Geography degree at the University of South Florida in Hillsborough County, Florida, and her Master of Arts in Geography degree at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.
