The Colorado Rockies can be a dangerous and hard place to get consistent electricity service to clients. CORE Electric Cooperative needed a way to mitigate fire hazards and update infrastructure while improving reliability for those that need it most.
Project goals
Seeing a need for consistent service, updated wiring, and improved safety measures in the Colorado Rockies, the CORE System Improvement Team initiated Squaw Pass. This project rebuilt existing overhead distribution lines servicing CORE’s members and trimmed trees for fire mitigation.
Outcomes
Atwell used modern technology including LIDAR and High-Density Imagery to assist in project efficiency. Our familiarity with CORE projects allowed us to identify areas of the project that would cut costs and bring effective solutions to these areas. Finalizing the design work in only 9 months, we were able to move the project into the hands of CORE’s contractors and assist with any areas of concern during construction. Upon project completion, the rebuilt line came in under budget. CORE’s Squaw Pass project is a source of considerable pride for Atwell, providing CORE and its members with more reliable service in a safer environment while simultaneously protecting property and wildlife from fire.
