One company’s goal to serve its employees and community draws inspiration from the site’s agricultural past and today’s sustainable building practices.
Project goals
Advantis Credit Union’s expansion in the market allowed its corporate leaders to collaborate with building and design experts to create a new campus headquarters. The goal was to promote team collaboration, community engagement, and a connection to the local land. They found a 12-acre former agricultural nursery site in Oregon City, Oregon, perfect for their vision.
Outcomes
The new 76,000-square-foot headquarters combined traditional agrarian shed architecture with modern materials and scale. It consolidated three offices into one campus, thoughtfully designed to bring the outdoors in and instill sustainable, energy-efficient practices. The north-facing clerestories utilized daylighting over artificial light, east/west windows were minimized to reduce sunlight glare, and exposed natural materials reinforced the connection to the outside. The campus provided access to nature trails, indoor/outdoor public spaces, and natural walking, hiking, and biking areas to further that connection.
Our design engineering team faced many challenges, including working during the height of the pandemic, material shortages, quarantine guidelines, and other project issues. There were also offsite stormwater challenges upstream and downstream of the property, coupled with limiting municipal conveyance. Our team overcame these challenges by optimizing city-approved stormwater best management practices and maximizing the available systems to transport onsite and offsite water.
