North Bend’s municipal campus balances state-of-the-art facilities and the natural Washington landscape.
Project goals
The city of North Bend constructed a new City Hall building as part of its efforts to consolidate city departments and administrative offices into a single municipal campus. The campus is located east of the historic downtown and includes Eastside Fire & Rescue’s Station 87, the City’s Public Works Department, and the City Hall. One of the significant design challenges was to combine the facilities while preserving the natural beauty and small-town aesthetic of North Bend and minimizing the impact on the environment.
Outcomes
To achieve this goal, our engineering and landscape architecture teams worked with project stakeholders designing parking, building accessibility, stormwater design, and trail access and crossings. Parking was designed around existing and future buildings while accommodating ADA access points. A joint project between the City and Si View Metro Parks included driveway transitions at trail crossings, ADA ramps at the road crossings, and associated storm drainage improvements. We also provided construction support services for over 1,100 LF of a 10-foot-wide ADA-compliant shared-use trail along North Bend Way.
